What is

Psychology?

Everyone feels down at times or needs someone to talk about some of the issues life throws at them. Psychology is defined as the scientific study of behaviour and the mind, and we can use this to set goals to improve your life. Some people may experience stress, low mood, low self-esteem, anxiety in new situations or with new people, addiction, or any other difficulties. If you haven’t felt like yourself lately, talking about it can help! You might not know where to begin, and that’s what we are here for.

Our Services

Depression

Persistent low mood, feelings of worthlessness, no longer enjoying the things you used to, withdrawing from loved ones, and at times, thoughts of harming yourself.

Anxiety (including Phobias)

Anxiety can come in the form of phobias, hypervigilance, and/or constant worry; we can all feel anxious from time to time, but sometimes it gets in the way of our thinking, relationships with others, and our day-to-day tasks. It can affect our sleep, mood, motivation, and concentration, and even lead to muscle tension/aches.

Trauma

Oftentimes we go through something traumatic, whether it’s once or repeatedly, and it can unsettle us. This can be a one-off (e.g. car accident injury), or repeated (e.g. neglect, abuse, bullying). Sometimes things that happen in our childhood can affect us when we are adults without us realising! A psychologist can help us to feel ourselved again.

Problem Solving & Behavioural Approaches

Rita uses practical strategies to engage you in your own therapy, looking at how you can take charge of the things that are bothering you! Sometimes it’s the little things you can change in your day that make the biggest difference.

Psychometric Assessments

Our provisional psychologist is able to administer assessments to determine IQ, functional capacity, and mental health diagnoses. This includes (but is not limited to): intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and many more

Men’s Mental Health

Men are four times more likely to die by suicide and are significantly less likely to seek help when they need.

Rita believes everyone can better themselves and make meaningful change in the right direction. She works to empower the individual to take control of their own life and give them the skills to do that!

Rita prefers cognitive-behavioural approaches. This approach looks at how our thoughts and feelings affect our behaviour, and how we can change these for the better. This includes reactive techniques in the short-term to deal with stress management while doing the cognitive work on a longer-term basis.

Rita often uses this approach while looking at what can be changed in your environment to help you to move forward, as the issue never lies solely within the person, but in what may be surrounding them as well.

Psychometric Assessments: Rita is also able to administer assessments to determine IQ, functional capacity, and mental health diagnoses. This includes (but is not limited to): intellectual disability, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and many more.

If you like colours and drawings and photos, Rita loves to use a whiteboard to draw/write what she is explaining to you – she likes therapy to be interactive and collaborative, putting you back in the driver’s seat with her as a guide to push you when you need it and slow down when it’s necessary. She will meet you where you are and walk at your pace.
